Hogeschool Utrecht University of applied sciences (HU) was founded in 1995, the result of a merger of several independent institutions. The HU is the third largest university of applied sciences in the Netherlands. It has over 35,000 students with more than one hundred different nationalities. Hogeschool Utrecht offers a wide range of courses spread within nine principal themes. Most of the 80 programmes lead to a Bachelor's degree, and some lead to a Master's degree.
HU University of Applied Sciences offers competency-based learning. This is the new form of education, based on the competencies of future professionals. Competencies include the knowledge, skills and attitudes that professionals must have to tackle problems in their fields.
